Walking the Talk

709036b.jpgEvery child should be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

Schools and communities must focus on preparing students for the 21st century.

It's easy to agree with these statements. They speak to the very core of the American dream and resonate with parents, educators, business leaders, and politicians alike. Yet, many families, schools, and communities struggle to move from believing this easy rhetoric to making it a reality for each child.

Are you ready to make that move?

ASCD and our whole child partners have called on educators, communities, and policymakers to work together to educate the whole child. Today, we announce a tool to help schools and school districts walk the talk of educating the whole child! The materials, resources, and suggestions in Educating the Whole Child: An ASCD Action Tool will help school staff, families, students, and community leaders work together to assess how they currently meet the needs of the whole child and develop and implement a school improvement plan to ensure that each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. This action tool provides practical resources such as sample strategic plans, observation rubrics, checklists for sustaining momentum, and action research questions.

Take action today! Spread the word about this new tool to others ready to move from rhetoric to reality for children in your community.
